Smooth Curb Ramp Theft: Hardware, Limits and Owner Checks

Ramp Theft Protection How Secure Is Smooth Curb Ramp

Smooth Curb is a removable driveway curb ramp. Its connected sections are heavy, but the product is not theft-proof, and we do not publish a theft-resistance rating. If security is a deciding factor, understand what the supplied hardware does before choosing a ramp.

This guide explains the assembly, the limits of weight and size as protection, and practical records and checks for owners. Smooth Curb is intended for vehicle crossings at compatible rolled driveway curbs; it is not a wheelchair-access system.

Can someone remove a Smooth Curb ramp?

Yes. The sections can be disconnected and relocated. The product FAQ specifically instructs owners to disconnect the bolts before moving the ramp to avoid damaging it. A person with access to the product may also be able to remove it. Its dimensions do not establish how likely a theft is at a particular home.

Reports of a different ramp being stolen do not measure Smooth Curb’s security. We do not have a published theft-rate study or comparative security test for this product.

What the connecting hardware actually does

Smooth Curb

The standard kit includes two end sections, one center section, and connecting bolts and nuts. Those fasteners join the ramp sections together. The official installation instructions show that assembly; they do not specify anchoring the ramp to the street, curb or another structure.

Do not drill into the curb or roadway, add ground anchors, or improvise a tether based on a blog article. Discuss any proposed modification with Smooth Curb and the party responsible for that surface. Added hardware must not obstruct the gutter, tire paths or pedestrian route.

Weight is a handling consideration

The published complete-system weight is 128 pounds. Plan for help handling the sections and follow the relocation instructions. That weight matters for installation and storage; it is not a guarantee that the ramp will stay in place or cannot be stolen.

The bolts are assembly hardware

Connecting hardware on a Smooth Curb ramp

The supplied bolts and nuts are described as connecting hardware. We do not describe them as special security bolts, claim they resist ordinary tools, or promise that removal will be noisy or time-consuming. Use the supplied components as instructed, and ask our team before substituting hardware.

Load capacity is not a security rating

Smooth Curb’s stated capacity of up to 32,000 pounds concerns vehicle loading in its intended application. It does not measure resistance to cutting, prying, vandalism or theft. The 3-year limited warranty also should not be interpreted as theft insurance.

Length does not prevent removal

Smooth Curb Ramp

The assembled kit spans 12 feet along the curb. Separately sold center extensions add 4 feet each. Those dimensions determine tire-path coverage and handling space, not a security classification. Because sections disconnect, assembled length does not prevent someone from transporting the individual pieces.

Practical steps for owners

  • Keep the purchase record and clear photographs of the ramp, its condition and its location. These can help identify what is missing if a theft occurs.
  • Inspect the placement and connecting hardware during routine maintenance. Investigate missing or loosened parts before using the ramp.
  • Consider lighting or a camera as part of your property’s overall security arrangements. A camera may provide a record, but it does not guarantee prevention.
  • When storing or relocating the ramp, disconnect sections as the FAQ directs and keep them on your property in a suitable location.
  • If the ramp disappears, check whether authorized street or property maintenance required removal. If theft is suspected, use local reporting channels and provide the records you have.

Deciding whether it suits your location

Choose Smooth Curb for a compatible rolled-curb transition after checking the curb profile and tire-path coverage. Treat theft risk as a separate ownership decision. Contact Smooth Curb if your location needs a security arrangement beyond the published assembly instructions.
